20km & Map
All routes start and finish at the Karkloof Country Club and are graded in accordance with IMBA’s guidelines. Each section of trail within the routes has a unique name. This route is predominantly graded green or easy; offering a good introduction to the more technical aspects of riding and some spectacular views.
Ride out the club gates straight over the district road onto the marked routes, then left up the hill. The climb goes past the timber loading-zone and up the district road. At the 4km mark you join the road that leads to the Karkloof Falls. At the 5.3 km point, look out for a sign to the right taking you off the road and back onto forestry roads. The route winds down through plantations for the next 3.5km. At the 8.7km mark turn left and start winding your way back to the Karkloof Falls road, which you re-join at 13.5km – enjoy the views over the Karkloof valley to Hilton College and Albert Falls Dam. Continue on the falls road to 14.6 km and then take the trail to the left as the road bends to the right. Descend to the river, over the bridge and up the other side. At the 15.3km point turn right. After a short climb turn right over the wooden bridge at 16.4km. This flowing single-track section joins the legendary “Boomslang” trail and brings you out above the tranquil Karkloof Falls picnic sight. Continue left along the jeep trail and join the moderately graded “River Riviere”, which follows the boulder strewn Karkloof River. Alternatively if you are a bit nervous of slightly more technical single-track, stay on the jeep trail and follow the 10km markers home. The trail “Heaven” is sure to bring you back to the club smiling from ear to ear!
